Sounds to Learn, Book 1 addresses the most common ways to form sounds in the English language, enabling even the weakest readers to have a basic framework with which to attack the English language. The activities are suitable for lower primary students who are familiar with phonic sounds and are ready to further investigate by using a ‘family group’ approach.
By grouping the various ways to produce sounds, students develop a bank of knowledge they can then draw on in their reading and writing. A picture cue accompanies each sound group to assist students in recalling sounds. As the students embed each group of sounds in their minds, they take great delight in knowing they can tackle larger words.
Each page follows a consistent layout to allow the students to concentrate solely on learning the sounds, rather than completing the worksheet. The innovative design and layout of the worksheets allows for students to develop their handwriting skills while studying phonics.
