And that is exactly the opportunity afforded within these pages, heavily spiced as well with the opportunity to learn from the successes of others. The underlying character of program management, and of this collection, can be gleaned from a sampling of terms found in the titles of the variour chapters: "pitfaiis," "Risky projects," "Audits," "False Economies," "Critical Path" and, yes, "Pulling the Plug." Clearly this is not a profession for the timid…But when all is said and done, the rewards are commensurate. It is usually the progarm manger, not the CEO or the CFO or the corporate auditor or even the general counsel, who can point to a completed, definitive, and tangible project and say, "I did this."
