Eight years ago I became extremely ill, and the sickness persisted for a very long time. During this period, computers were my lifeline to the rest of the world a way to communicate with others when I was too sick to leave my bed.
Computers were also the way that I planned an escape from my days of boredom and meager disability benefits. By learning to ose programs like Adobe Photoshop and code pages for the World Wide Web, I could imagine a future when I would be paid to design from my home. And when my freelance design career began to become a reality, I saw computers as a wa y of building a much larger business, one that would employ lots of creative people like myself.
