This book is written for the one-semester, short course in organic chemistry--where content must be thorough but to the point. We present only those subjects needed for a brief course while maintaining the important pedagogical tools commonly found in larger books. In this sixth edition, Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry uses clear explanations, thought provoking examples, and the innovative vertical format for explaining reaction mechanisms. The primary organization of this book is by fuctional group, begining with the simple (alkanes) and progressing to the more complex. Within the primary organization, there is also an emphasis on explaining the fundamental mechanistic similarities of reactions. Through this approach, we hope that memorization is minimized and understandign is maximized.
