This book hits the ground running, and you'll have created your first mashup within the first few pages. Once your appetite is whetted, you'll read a bit on the history of mashup and early predecessors in Chapter 2. A quick rundown of the software, hardware, and music files necessary for mashup construction is given in Chapter 3. If you're new to music, you should definitely read Chapter 4, which teaches you all the music theory you need to know for mashup contruction. If you've never used ACID or Adobe Audition, Chapter 5 will show you the ropes.
One the basics are covered, Chapter 6 goes in depth into the song selection, and Chapter 7 through 9 discuss how to get your songs in key and in sync. Chapter 10 reveals the black art of unmixing, where vocals and other parts are lifted and separated from the rest of the sound. Chapter 11 goes into depth on the topic of arrangement, and Chapter 12 covers mastering and effects. This is all follwed up by a discussion on rendering, distribution and legal considerations in the final three chapters.
The appendices include information on the CD-ROM included with this book (Appendix A), a large list of links to software, mashup artists, and other useful web sites (Appendix B), and a handy glossary of music and music production terms used in the book.
