Human resource management (HRM) is arguably the most exciting area within the field of business. It is constantly changing and evolving. In fact, much has happened in the world since the writing of the 11th edition. Certainly the national elections and the recession of 2008/10 have affected many aspects of human resource management. In recent years, my hometown has been hit by two major hurricanes and I have seen how these unanticipated events can affect the practice of human resource management.
You will see how these changes have affected human resource management as you study the information in the book. Major technological changes appear to be increasing geometrically with no end in sight. Social networking trends such as wikis, blogs, LinkedIn, and Facebook and other tools such as Twitter have worked their way into human resource (HR) use. I have personally had to learn how to use social networking to write about it successfully.
