Several views of a preface are
- A statement or essay, usually by the author, introducing a book and explaining its scope, intention, or background
- Obligatory
- The last item provided when your energy and patience are almost exhausted
- Something to be skipped
- Advertising, subject to the usual attempts by overstatement, innuendo, etc.
At this point you already know when and why we wrote this preface, but why should you read it? Primarily because we think you will know quickly what our approach has been, what we consider the book's strong points to be, and whether these are a good match to your teaching (instructor) learning (student) style.
