When Mole decides to go boating with Ratty the Water Rat instead of doing his spring cleaning, he discovers a world he never knew existed. There's the river and the Wild Wood, and there's reclusive Badger and wild Toad, who become fast friends. But Toad's recklessness will test the friendship of the foursome as he leads them from one trouble to another and, finally, into battle.
