This new edition of Sources of Medieval History is similar to its predecessors in content and structure. The principal change is the inclusion of some new readings. There are several more readings on women's history, including substantial excerpts from Gratian's Decretum on the medieval law of marriage. Also, more material is included on Byzantium and Islam, on medieval Jewish life, and on peasant conditions. I have grouped some of the sources from the previous edition with fresh material to form three new chapters, "Byzantium, the West and the Slavs" (chapter 10), "Women, Love, and Marriage" (chapter 17), and "Women and Religion: Saint and Heretic" (chapter 31). The new readings in this edition are from Albert of Aix Ann Comnena, an Assize Roll of 1381, the Customal of Chapelaude, Gratian's Decretum, Guibert of Nogent, The Life of Christina of Markyate, Memorials of London and London Life, Marguerite Porete, the Qur'an, and the Russian Primary Chronicle
