This is the story of the men who fought the first major war of the twenty-forst century told you by a young British reporter who shared their lives, hopes and fears.
The "Black Knights" were among the first units of the US 3rd Infantry Division to see combat when, twelve hours after entering lrag, they helped seized a major airfield. Eight hundred miles and almost a month later, they led the American army as it advnaced into the outskirts of Baghdad, through positions held by thousands of Republican Guards.
Many of the troops were under the age of twenty and had never left the US before. The things they did and saw on the deadly trek into the heart of Ssaddam's state would change them for ever.
