This book is an attempt to get in on the writing porcess at the very beginning and examine allthe long-established assumptions from which you, the college student, and almost everyone else writes. My premise is simple : You can't write well if you're writing for the worng reasons. If you think that writing is an exercise in "expressing yourself," hiding your ignorance, impressing a teacher, getting a good grade, avoiding grammar mistakes, following the rules, or demon strating your extensive vocabulary or outlining skills, then every time you write you'll simply be reinforcing that misunderstanding.Unitl you write for the reasons successful writers write, teaching and practice and drill will only make the bad habits more entrenched.
