The question of why study environmental and resourse economics is posed in Chapter 1. A more basic question is,
"Why write a book about environmental economics?"The answer to the second question is much more complex than the first, but it revolves around the sentiments expressed in the above quotation by Rick Bass.Quite simply, the environment matters and the field of environmental economics offers a unique way of thinking about the environment.
A former colleague of mine,a biologist, used to kid me environmental economics is an oxymoron. That always provoked a reaction from me. I believe very strongly that it is possible to be passionate about both the environment and economics, and this book tries to reflect these two passions and show that they are not mutually exclusive.
